If you are in Basavanagudi and hunger pangs strike you, there is only one name that comes to mind – Vidyarthi Bhavan! Hidden away amidst the fragrant flower stalls and crowded shopping streets this quaint little place always has a long queue greeting you. But you are not going to bother about that because once the delectable aroma of the masala dosa comes wafting out of the tiny door – You will wait for n number of minutes just to get your table!
Food : Lots of ghee, fresh coconut and steaming hot dosas & idlis. The USP of this place is definitely their legendary masala dosa and the ever-so-typical to Bangalore – Filter Kaapi. They have other items viz Idli, bisibelebath, upma, sheera which are all good, but nothing out of the ordinary. However, their coconut chutney will surely leave a lingering taste on your mind. in total, this place is surely worth a visit.
Ambiance : Honestly, its old tables, crowded and stuffy (At times, bcz of the humongous crowd present) but with the warmth of an old home kitchen. The walls have several photographs of famous personalities visiting the place and newspaper articles which reviewed the hotel, all potential interesting reads. The service is prompt, and it takes around 5-10 minutes of wait time for your order to come. The waiters here demonstrate a unique skill of carrying several dosa plates heaped one over the other – Like a Dosa Tower – quite amusing to see actually. a few waiters can get cranky though, if you keep repeating your order or ask for extra sambar/chutney repeatedly. They need a little time to manage the crowd.. soo.. be polite and patient – that’ll ensure you good service!
Pricing – It is budget friendly and worth every penny.
PS: This hotel is best visited for a lazy weekend breakfast with your whole family.. enjoy!
